Checking out
If you would like to borrow a book or other Library item, all you need is to be registered in our system as a student or staff member at St. Augustine. You will be required to present either your Student ID card, your student number, or your name.
Check out limit
The School Board has set the maximum number of physical items a user may have signed out at a given time to five.
Lending Period
The initial lending period when a student checks out a Library book is two weeks. For staff members, the initial lending period is two months.
* Note that teachers may request special due dates for students working on long-term class projects.
Renewals
Students requiring more time may renew Library items for an additional two weeks at a time. The renewal period for staff is two months.
* Note that in cases where a hold is placed on the item in question, a user will not be able to renew.
Checking in
Library items being returned may be dropped off in one of two locations: at the Circulation Desk (if the Library Technician is present) or in the Book Drop (which sits in front of the Circulation Desk).
Fines
Library fines are $0.20 per item per day overdue (not including weekends and holidays) up to $5.00 per item.
Placing a Hold
If a Library item you would like to borrow is checked out, you may place a hold on the item. Holds expire after one month. If the item you requested is returned before your hold expires, the item will be placed on a Holds' shelf behind the Circulation Desk and a notice of availability will be placed in your homeroom teacher's or staff mailbox.
Reporting a Missing or Lost Item
If the Library is not able to locate an item, it will be marked as "Missing". If you are unable to locate an item you have checked out on your account, please come to the Circulation Desk and report the item as "Lost". The Library will then bill the user for the original cost of the lost item.
eBooks
eBooks and audiobooks are also available through the Library Catalogue and on Overdrive.
On Overdrive, read or listen in your browser OR download and read or listen using the Overdrive app.
eBooks on Overdrive are also available via the Overdrive student reading app, Sora (desktop version). Sora offers users simultaneous access to Overdrive ebook collections at DPCDSB and other libraries (ie: Brampton Public Library). Sora may also be downloaded via App Store.
If they are subscription-based, ebooks may be checked out or in electronically using your student or staff ID.
In cases where the school owns an ebook, the school ID may be required by the online provider. See the Teacher-Librarian or Library Technician for the school login and password.
Some ebooks are open access or free to the public and will require no ID.
